Hericium erinaceus Common / Usual Names: Lions Mane Mushroom AKA Bearded Tooth Mushroom, Hedgehog Mushroom, Bearded Hedgehog Mushroom, Pom Pom Mushroom, Bearded Tooth Fungus Description: Lions Mane is a choice edible when young, and the texture of the cooked mushroom is often compared to seafood. In traditional Chinese medicine this mushroom has long been considered a medicinal mushroom. Research has linked Lions Mane with anti-dementia qualities and in the treatment of gastric and esophageal carcinoma. Lions mane is very delicate so the commercial production of the mushroom is rare due to transportation difficulties. As such, many people believe that this mushroom can only really be enjoyed to its full extent when fresh and grown yourself. |

Whilst it is perfectly fine to grow the mushroom off our logs, lions mane when growing wild is a protected species under The Wildlife & Countryside Act.
